About Carbery Sailing

Carbery Sailing is a RYA recognised training centre based in Ahakista offering RYA sailing courses, Wild Atlantic Way cruises and Day Sail's in West Cork. During the winter we are located in the Canary Islands.

The sailing school was started in 2012 by Chris Forker. Chris is a Naval Architect and used to be an instructor with Glenans Sailing School in Baltimore in the late 70s. Drawing on a passion for sailing he has started the company with a Hallberg-Rassy 46 "Merlin" as a solid foundation on which to teach students the art and science of sailing.

Chris is meticulous about maintaining the highest possible standards both in the maintenance and preparation of Merlin.

We cannot control the wind, tides and weather but our years of sailing in West Cork mean we can try to minimize the effects. Safety is always paramount, but we also make sure that learning and fun are at the top of the agenda.

Merlin is Irish Department of Transport for the Marine coded commercial sail training vessel and carries all the necessary safety equipment. The school's procedures are frequently updated, overhauled and inspected by the RYA.

Carbery Sailing specialises in beginner's sailing and Fast Track RYA Day Skipper courses. We also undertake adventure sailing cruises on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, Ocean Passages to Spain, Madeira, the Azores and the Canaries on a Hallberg-Rassy 46.
